JAIME DÍAZ LÓPEZ

Born in 1974 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, there was never a moment where Jaime Diaz

wasn’t creating, painting or designing with whatever he found in his environment.

At the age of 12 years old, he was  accepted to Central Specialized School of Visual Arts, 

an award winning magnet school where he began as a muralist  for various educational

institutions and private companies. Diaz spent his formative years at this school developing

his talents and dexterity by exposing himself to various disciplines such as drawing, painting,

sculpting, design and graphic arts. 

Inspired and driven by his passion for art, he attended the University of Puerto Rico in 1992

to study interior design, advertising, commercial art and architecture. Throughout this time, 

Diaz was hired for  projects as a muralist, cartoonist, graphic artist, interior designer, 

architectural illustrator and scene designer for corporate events. Several years later in

the early 2000s, Diaz came across an opportunity that catapulted him to participate in 

several different festivals and cultural activities  to include private collections, exhibits, 

and commissioned art. His work is recognized as multifaceted,  avant-garde, and a 

continuous playful experience. 

In 2019, he opened his own art gallery called D’galeria in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, 

with the purpose  of  introducing art diversification and impactful collections that include 

pieces from local and international artists. Diaz’s work is collected by several Puertorican Mayors,

Doctors, local celebrities and boutique hotels throughout Puerto Rico. He has been commissioned 

by the Medical Dystrophy Association and collaborated with various non-profits to promote the 

healing elements art has for those in challenging moments.

Diaz remains an active advocate for the power and influence art has on everyday lives. 

His latest collaboration along with other international artists, CROMÁPOLIS, a social urban art project

co-founded by Diaz, was inspired because of the desolation left behind by Hurricane Maria. 

These artists united together with the mission to rebirth and reactivate an economically devastated 

town by painting murals throughout the town reflecting cultural symbols and music to serve

as a remembrance of the resilient Puerto Rican spirit. 

AS AN ARTIST

My artistic work is one where the constant evolution and experimentation

between the manipulation of various mediums, techniques and diversity

of themes is an essential part of my creative process.  A feeling of timeless

expression overwhelms me where one day I wake up with preconceived ideas

and the next with ideas to be conceived. 

Moments where I disconnect from reality to consume myself  in the language

of strokes and colors. Chromatic intensity, senses, force and movement in the execution

of lines and shapes, reflect the intention to be perceived by the receiver who seeks

empathy  within their own reality.
